FOODS A DIABETIC CAN EAT.

In thisarticle today I will show you top ten food tips for people with diabetes. You may know some of them already but it is always good to havea reminder. Remember that there are a lot of ways to enhance the management of your diabetes. It just requires you to make some positive choices which in a long run will not only help your diabetes but also your overall health.

  1. FRUITS AND VEGETABLES.

It is recommended to eat five portionsof fruits and vegetables each single day but what counts as a portion? 80g of fruits or vegetables counts as a portion. In simple terms, a piece of fruit such as an apple or an orange that fills your hand counts as a portion.3heat tablespoons of vegetables such as carrots, peas and sweet corn.

  • TAKE LESS SUGAR.

The cells of diabetic people are resistant to insulin and as a result of this, sugar accumulates in the blood. Taking sugar by itself cannot cause insulin resistance but foods containing sugar enhance weight gain which in turn reduces insulin sensitivity in the human body. Taking excess sugary foods contributes to the risk of acquiring diabetes.

  • EAT RED MEAT LESS OFTEN THAN ONCE PER DAY.

Regular intake of red meat has been has been known to bring about increase in the rate of cancer and heart disease. It is better togo for unprocessed red meat. Lean mean such as skinless chicken and turkey are highly recommended instead of red meat.

  • EAT FISH AT LEAST TWICE A WEEK.

fish is a very good source of omega-3 especially the oily fish. Omega 3 contributes to a good healthy heart. It is highly recommended to have at least one portion of oily fish each week

  • WATCH CARBOHYDRATES.

People with type 2 diabetes have less need to count each carbohydrate but it certainly helps to be wary of approximate quantities of carbohydrate so you can see how different foods affect your blood glucose levels.

  • CUT DOWN ON YOUR SALT INTAKE.

High intake of salts has been linked with high blood pressure. The required recommendation is to have a maximum daily intake of 6g of salt.

  • REDUCE ALCOHOL INTAKE.

High alcohol intake is linked with higher risks of heart diseases, liver conditions and cancers. Reducing the consumption of alcohol can help to increase your chances of being free of these health complications.
