We only live a fraction of time that our planet has been around for. There are creatures in our planet that live much shorter life than humans and those who outlive us by far while some are close to immortality. Go ahead and see for yourself.

  • Mayfly.  The insect has the shortest life span on earth as it lives for only 24 hours or less. That is just one day.
  • Drone ant. The shortest living among ants. The drone ant has a life span of 3 days.
  • Male mosquito. It is important to know that male mosquitoes do not drink blood. The female anopheles mosquito is the one that sucks blood. The male mosquito lives for one week.
  • House fly.. A house fly can lay up to 1,000 eggs in its entire life time which is estimated to be between 15- 25 days, that is 2- 3 and a half weeks.
  • Female mosquito. As mentioned above, it is the female mosquito that sucks blood and it has a life span of one month.
  • House mouse. Did you know that a mouse can squeeze itself into a ¼ inch hole? Well, now you know. The house mouse has a life span of 1 year.
  • Panther chameleon. Mainly found in Madagascar, it is the shortest living creature among reptiles as it lives for one year only.
  • Honey bee. Found all over the world. They posses hive mind which gives them a sort of telepathy. The honey bee has a life span of 5 years.
  • Chicken. Chicken is the most popular poultry in the world and it has a life span of 9 years. It is found in almost all parts of the earth.
  • Kangaroo. A kangaroo can use its tail as a lever to box using their hind legs. A kangaroo’s life span is discovered to be 10 years.
  • Hummingbird. These birds have a heart that makes 1,200 beats per minute. Hummingbird has a of 12 year life span.
  • Cheetah. Cheetah is the fastest land animal alive. The cheetah however, has a life span of 12 years. Its high speed makes it easy for it to catch its prey.
  • Dog. The Great Dane can reach over 7 feet (210 cm) standing on its hind lags. That is absolutely amazing. A dog has a life span of 13 years.
  • Giraffe. It is mainly found in Africa and it is the tallest living creature in the world and with a life span of 25 years.
  • Human beings. They are the mammals that occupy the greatest percentage on earth. Human beings have a life span of between 68- 73 years.
  • Elephant. Mother Bush elephants bear their cubs after 22 months and the elephants have a life span of 70 years.
  • Kakapo. Kakapo is the world’s only parrot that can’t fly and it has a life span of 80 years.
  • Aldabra giant tortoise. This is the largest tortoise on the planet. The aldabra giant tortoise has a life span of 120 years.
  • Galapagos tortoise. The oldest living tortoises. The Galapagos tortoise can live up to 170 years.
  • Greenland shark. Greenland shark is the longest living vertebrate with a life span of 270 years.
  • Giant tube sponge. Despite the lack of any organs, the giant tube sponge can feed and reproduce. They have a life span of 2000 years.
  • Coral reef. Great Barrier Reef is visible from space. The coral reef has a life span of 4000 years.
  • Turritopsi dohrnii. Biologically immortal. It can go back to being polyp and grow up again infinitely. Turritopsis dohrnii does not have a life span as it is confirmed to live forever.
