It is very important to be physically active during pregnancy and the benefits are tremendous for the mother and her child. During pregnancy, the mother can start with short time exercise periods of 5-10 minutes exercise if they have not been active prior to becoming pregnant but the target is 30-40 minutes, 3-4 days a week and it can be a variety of activities that is encouraged. There are some benefits that are associated with exercising during pregnancy and that is what we are going to look at.

  1. IMPROVED CARDIOVASCULAR FOR THE MOTHER.

Cardiovascular relates to the circulatory system comprising of the heart and blood vessels which carries oxygen and nutrients to the body tissues and gets rid of carbon (IV) oxide and other wastes from them.

  • IMPROVED BLOOD FLOW.

With a good blood flow, an expectant mother will maintain a healthy blood and oxygen flow throughout the body and also the placenta thus allows the proper functioning of the heart, lungs and muscles. Another advantage of improved blood flow is that the white blood cells in the body’s immune system will be transported around the body as required.

  • IT REDUCES OR COULD REDUCE THE INCIDENCE OF DEVELOPING GESTATIONAL DIABETES.

 This type of diabetes is diagnosed for the first time during pregnancy and brings about high blood sugar that can affect an expectant mother and the health of the baby.

  • WEIGHT GAIN.

Many women are concerned with their weight gain during pregnancy and we do believe that exercising throughout the pregnancy will help with the weight gain.

  • SIMPLE EXERCISES.

Some of the exercises that are recommended would be somehow related to what she has already been doing. To women who are not accustomed to exercising we would recommend something such as walking 30 minutes a day at a brisk pace. However, if they are involved in exercise activities, usually what they are doing is perfectly fine to continue with although maybe at a less rigorous pace and they might just need to avoid certain exercise activities that might include trauma to the abdomen such as competitive sports, kickboxing or even scuba diving.

  • PRENATAL YOGA CLASSES.

Prenatal yoga classes are a great idea as it can help women with stretching particularly low back stretching which is a common problem during pregnancy also relaxation techniques as well as helping with breathing techniques all of which were not only helpful during the pregnancy but also through labor and delivery as well.

  • BUILD THE MOTHERS STRENGTH.

When it comes to labor and delivery, it is going to be a shorter delivery, less chance for C- section and there is also the mental and physical health benefits. It is really important for moms to be active because it helps to reduce stress, they sleep better, they acquire more energy and they have a positive outlook as they go through their pregnancy.

  • INFLUENCING THE BABY’S HEALTH.

Moms exercise can influence the baby’s health and some of the things we are learning is that if the expectant mother exercises, it can impact the way her baby’s brain develops and can also have an impact on baby’s health in future.
